I Built an AI Coach That Tracks My Progress and Edits My Learning Plan in Real-Time

Teen student building an AI learning coach with real-time progress tracking and editable plans

Okay, so I’m 18. Still figuring out life, like most of us are. I’m trying to learn as much as possible, as fast as possible, because this world? It’s not slowing down for anyone. But honestly... learning felt chaotic. YouTube tutorials, random blogs, half-finished courses. No structure. No plan.

So I thought—why not let AI handle it? That’s what led me to build something that literally changed how I learn.

๐ŸŽฏ What I Built (And Why It’s Cool)

I created an AI Coach—a digital mentor that actually gets me. It doesn't just hand over a random plan. It:

  • ๐ŸŽ“ Generates a learning roadmap based on what I want to learn
  • ✅ Lets me track my progress with checkboxes and saves it
  • ✏️ Lets me edit the plan on the go (like actually delete or rewrite steps)
  • ๐Ÿ” Can refine the entire plan in seconds if I feel it’s too hard or too easy

I used LLM (Large Language Models) to power the brain, a simple interface to display it all, and a little bit of logic to make it feel like... well, a real coach.

๐Ÿง  How It Tracks Progress (The Sticky Part)

One of the biggest challenges I had was forgetting what I did yesterday. My brain’s like a browser with 43 tabs open. That’s why I added a system where:

  • Each roadmap step has a checkbox
  • My progress is saved (even if I close the tab)
  • Everything links to my user profile (I used Supabase for this part)

Now when I log in, I see where I left off. It’s like gamified learning, but smarter.

✏️ Editing My Plan in Real-Time

This was the best feature. Sometimes I’d read a roadmap step and go, “Bro… I already know this.” Or “This is way too hard for where I’m at.”

So I made each roadmap step editable. I click the pencil icon, change the text, hit save. Boom. My learning journey just adapted to me—not the other way around.

๐Ÿ’ฌ My AI Even Talks Back

Every time I update or finish something, the AI coach checks in with me. Like:

  • "Want me to shorten the next steps?"
  • "Need a YouTube resource for this topic?"
  • "Do you want to schedule a reminder to finish this later?"

It’s not perfect, but it actually feels like someone’s walking the journey with me. (Okay, more like someTHING ๐Ÿ˜…)

๐ŸŒ Why This Matters (Not Just for Me)

We’re heading into a world where everyone’s going to need to learn faster. AGI, job shifts, AI tools... the world won’t wait. But most schools still teach like it’s 1999.

This AI Coach? It’s the first step toward the future of education—where learning is:

  • ✅ Personal
  • ⚡ Fast
  • ๐ŸŽฏ Flexible
  • ๐Ÿ” Constantly updated

I don’t think I’m special for building this. I just think I’m lucky to live in a time where it’s possible—and honestly, anyone can do this with the right tools.

๐Ÿงฐ Tools I Used (If You Want to Try It)

  • LLM (Together AI + Python) – for generating roadmap
  • Streamlit – for the frontend interface
  • Supabase – to store user progress and plans
  • ChromaDB – for vector-based resource search

I’ll open-source a mini version soon if people are interested. Just DM me on Twitter or drop a comment.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Final Thought

Building this made me realize something crazy: Learning doesn’t need to be lonely anymore. Your AI coach can guide you, push you, even argue with you a bit.

So if you’re a student, a self-learner, or just someone who’s tired of aimless tutorials… maybe it’s time to build (or use) your own AI coach.

๐Ÿ“ข Over to You:

Would you use an AI coach to guide your learning? Let me know in the comments or share what feature you’d want it to have!
